Our client in Elkhorn, NE, has a beautiful pool, but they wanted to create an area around it for lounging while upgrading its overall look. To do this, our crew built a retaining wall from limestone ledgestone along one side of the house and pool area, bringing a rustic, natural charm that keeps the soil from the landscape in place. A stamped concrete pool deck and an accent area for a fire pit were also installed. Finally, we incorporated a waterwall into the pool, along with planters on either end. With all the elements complete, they now enjoy a cohesive flow between different sections of their pool area and an elevated outdoor living experience.

We Built a Retaining Wall From Limestone Ledgestone Along the Side of the Pool Area

This pool deck project was comprehensive and involved multiple elements, one being a retaining wall. We built a retaining wall from limestone ledgestone along one side of the house and pool area to keep the landscape in place while creating an access point to the pool deck. This material is durable, plus adds a natural, rustic look that complements the space, ensuring the wall blends in seamlessly with its surroundings.

A Pool Deck & Accent Area for a Fire Pit Were Installed

The main element of this project was installed next: the pool deck. Stamped concrete was used to construct the pool deck, with a Holland paver edging in ivory and dark charcoal around the pool. This edging defines the pool, and the concrete deck connects the different sections around it for a cohesive flow throughout our client's outdoor living space.

Additionally, our team created an accent patio area at the far end of the retaining wall for a fire pit. This space is defined with Hollandstone Premier pavers in dark charcoal from Unilock, which we arranged in an eye-catching pattern to separate it from the pool deck. From there, we installed the sleek, rectangular fire pit, providing fireside warmth so they can spend time outside even during chilly evenings.

We Finished This Pool Deck Project With a Waterwall, Landscape Beds & Plantings

The final step of this pool deck project was to add decorative elements that would tie everything together. To start, we incorporated a stunning waterwall into the pool, built from Rochester Contemporary wall block in onyx black. This waterwall is a unique, eye-catching focal point that takes the pool's look to the next level. We also installed rectangular planters on either side of it using Kasota wall stone and limestone, which we filled with plantings. Additionally, softscape beds were added along the house, as well as ornamental grasses and new plants to the landscape atop the retaining wall. Our client now has an even better pool deck area with various features and elements that complement each other perfectly.
