Our team at UPL recently completed a landscaping project at a new home build in Omaha, NE. The home is located in the Village Cove neighborhood and now features a spectacular landscape. We installed a covered paver patio, steps, driveway inlay with a walkway to the front door, and new landscape beds and plantings. We also completed drainage work.

This outstanding project began with an initial consultation during which we learned about our client's goals. Our team then got to work designing the project and selecting the primary materials to be used. With our client's approval, we chose to use high-quality pavers from County Materials Corporation. After the design was approved and the materials were selected, we started the construction process. The end result is a phenomenal outdoor living space that is complemented by beautiful softscapes!

The Initial Landscaping Project Meeting

Outdoor steps built for custom patio project in Bennington, NE.

During the initial meeting with the client, we walked the property to assess the site conditions and discuss the parameters of their landscaping project. Their home is located in the Village Cove neighborhood in Omaha, Nebraska. We discussed installing a new landscape for their new home build to include a covered paver patio, steps, a driveway inlay with a walkway to the front door, new landscape beds and plantings, and drainage work.

When meeting with clients for the first time on a new home build, we strive to gather as much information as possible using site visits and construction plans from the builder. This enables us to prepare a landscape and hardscape plan that meets the client's needs and showcases the project elements. It also allows us to provide an accurate estimate for the client to review.

The Landscaping Project Design Process

Fire place installed with outdoor kitchen in Bennington, NE.

Once the landscaping project plan was completed, we met with the client’s family again to discuss the layout of their project and go over any necessary changes or tweaks to the project based on the client’s preferences. After the layout was set in stone, we began the process of honing in on the materials to be used. Generally, we have recommendations listed on the plan to show clients in our showroom. This way, families can see the products in person so they can effectively choose the products they prefer. Once the design process was completed, the construction process began.

For this project, we used a combination of Tranquility and Crest Pavers from County Materials Corporation.

The Landscape Construction Process

Landscape bed added to backyard in Bennington, NE.

The first step of the construction process was to install the backyard paver patio, the front paver inlay/walkway, and the step veneer pavers. This installation was an overlay over poured concrete, so once the concrete was poured, we installed a thin layer of limestone chips over the concrete for leveling. Then, we installed pavers over the limestone. Pavers were then cut in along the edges, and a border was installed. The paver joints were filled with a polymeric sand that hardens when activated with water.

During the softscape portion of this project, the beds were amended with topsoil that was worked in through tilling due to the extensive clay fill used on this new home site. The beds were edged with a bronze aluminum edging and staked in place. The plantings were installed, and all of the beds were mulched. The client will now be able to enjoy their landscape and watch it grow!
